Since I drew a mermaid digitally yesterday, I thought I’d draw one by hand to compare. Done during history class in the margin of my notes… she doesn’t have a name yet. I think I like her more than yesterdays’, though.

I should really work on digital art more often…

eternity-oberon asked: Hi sweetie, I had a big question to ask ya! I wonder if you would be okay with me using this photo of yours as a slight mention to my tattoo artist I'm in love with the hummingbird with the dew on it! I plan on getting something different completely, a koi for my father, but I wonder if you would be okay with me using your color scheme? I planned to reverse it, mainly reds with a splash of that green. Thanks much. :)

Of course, go ahead! If it strikes your inspiration, I’m happy for you to use it. And best of luck with your tattoo… I’m sure it will turn out great. Koi fish are beautiful! :)

I’ve been dead and far away from home all of march break, and I forgot to take advantage of my scanner before I left. (please forgive me for my disappearance from tumblr!)
The relatives I’m visiting have a terrible drawing up on the wall that I made when I was eleven, so I thought I’d give them something to update it with :)
Took the picture with my ipod. Limpkin, 9x12”, unfinished.

Small update: Might sell prints. Might start an etsy. Lots of maybe’s… I’m looking for a good place to make prints, the ones I currently have lying around are terrible quality :(

Also, art class has been exceptionally dumb (yay highschool), but I promise I’ll update once I get the plans done for the next project :)

Anonymous asked: So, for you're pen works I was curious, do you sketch it all out in pencil before inking or do you just do it in pen from the start? Also how long does it take you to do a piece, on average.

The smaller designs, like the flower and bear and school note sketches I posted recently, I just do in pen. But if I’m doing a bigger piece, like the kingfisher, where I’m drawing over the entirety of a page, I’ll map everything out in pencil first. The only reason I don’t with the smaller pieces is that I’m just lazy, and since they’re so tiny I don’t mind if I mess up. But it would be terrible to make a mistake on something that takes a lot of time to complete, especially in pen and ink, where everything’s so final.

The full-page pieces I’ll usually do over a three to five day period, and they’ll take me about eight hours. Research for the concept, when I’m drawing something out of a legend and want the details to be accurate, also takes quite a while. The small designs (like the bear!) take me anywhere from five minutes to half an hour.

Sorry for the long answer!

Rooster studies… fooled around with colour for the second. The original picture no larger than 2x2”. I love their tail feathers! :)

jackfromhp5 asked: I'm not sure if you do this but hey, worth an ask. Your style is so intriguing and beautiful, would you be able to draw a rooster? They are my favourite animal and I would love to see your interpretation! If not for me for everyone else. :) Best wishes and good luck for the future

Wow, thank you so much. And sure, I love birds, they’re super fun to draw. I don’t think I’ve ever drawn a rooster before… I’ll post a study of one tomorrow, maybe :)

Anyways, I won’t draw anything anyone asks me to, but if they suggest something that sounds fun, I’ll definitely consider it.

Sketchbook planning for a larger ink piece, based on The Nightingale by Hans Christian Anderson. It’s my favourite of his :)
Started the planning last week, took it up again today… I’ll start the actual piece tomorrow, if I can find the right paper.

scream-mayday asked: did you draw that hummingbird back in October that you posted? would you give me permission to get it tattooed? i've been looking for a hummingbird design in memory of my grandmother that passed away, and i love it so much.

You have my permission, definitely! I’m honoured that someone wants my art as a tattoo.
If you do get the tattoo, could you submit a picture? I’d love to see it :)

youngerthanmytongue asked: would you ever do a commission for a tattoo design?

I’d be totally open to working on a tattoo design! Sounds fun. Probably not with the subject as a person, though… still working on faces.

Little bear design, thought I’d try a new style. It was fun. The original was done in pen and ink in black, around 3x3”… scanned on, digitally coloured.

Sorry for not posting much this week! I’ve been very busy… so I’ve uploaded an older piece for today, and hopefully my next big one will be finished by monday.
Unfortunately tumblr’s resizing isn’t very conducive to details… oh well. The original piece was done at 8.5x11”.

Anonymous asked: I love your art and style so much!!! You are amazing!!!!!

Thank you so much!! :)

alienloserbabe asked: Can we have your art tattooed on us as long as we make sure the artist knows not to change any part of it or claim it as theirs?

Umm… wow. Sure, okay. That’s kind of huge, but if you really want, go for it! I’d be honoured :)

If you do decide to get the tattoo, could you just send a picture my way? I’d love to see it!
